@Mitty66, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet 4650 isn't printing in color, several factors might be causing this issue. Here are some steps to help troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Ensure that both the black and tri-color ink cartridges have sufficient ink. You can check the ink levels from the printer control panel by touching the Ink icon or from the HP printer software on your computer.

Replace Ink Cartridges:

  • If the color cartridge is empty or has low ink, replace it with a new HP tri-color ink cartridge. Follow the steps to replace ink cartridges properly to ensure they're installed correctly.

Printer Settings:

  • Make sure that the print settings on your computer are set to print in color. Check the printer preferences or properties in the application you're using to print.

Perform a Print Quality Diagnostic Report:

  • This report can help identify issues with your ink cartridges or printheads. You can print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report by touching the Setup icon on the printer's display, navigating to Tools, and selecting Print Quality Report.

Clean the Printhead:

  • Cleaning the printhead can help resolve issues with poor print quality. You can do this through the printer’s settings menu under Tools.

Check for Software or Driver Updates:

  • Ensure your printer's software and drivers are up to date. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest updates.

Align the Printer:

  • After replacing cartridges, ensure that the printer aligns properly. A misaligned printhead can cause color printing issues.

Check the Document:

  • Ensure the document or image you're trying to print does include color content and it's not set to print in grayscale or black and white from the application settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Possibly, @Garp_senchau can follow up.

I am guessing one of the ink colors is low. See page 50 of the manual
