pin doesn't work to open desktop

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

 

  • Are you seeing an error message when you enter your PIN (for example, “PIN is incorrect” or “Something went wrong”)?
  • Has the PIN worked before, or is this the first time you’re setting it up?
  • Do you have another sign‑in option available, such as a password or fingerprint, and does that work?
  • Did this issue start after a Windows update or any recent changes to your system?

Troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Try Your Password Instead
    • On the sign‑in screen, select Sign‑in options and choose Password.
    • If you can log in with your password, you can reset the PIN afterwards.
  2. Reset the PIN
    • Once logged in with your password, go to Settings → Accounts → Sign‑in options.
    • Under PIN (Windows Hello), select Remove, then set up a new PIN.
  3. Safe Mode Sign‑in
    • Restart your PC and press F8 or hold Shift while selecting Restart.
    • Choose Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart.
    • Select Safe Mode and try signing in with your password.
  4. Windows Update
  • After you regain access, check for pending Windows updates.
  • Updates often include fixes for sign‑in issues
