ProBook 640 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Our 640 G1's came with 65W power cords.  I am wondering if the laptop is able to handle 90W cords as well?  The end will fit, but I am not sure if it's designed to take that much or smart enough to scale back.

Thanks

Yes it will work just fine.

You should have a SMART AC adapter.

If it has a pin in the center like this.

Yeah that's the cord.  So it's smart enough to only use what it needs?  Won't burn out the battery or something?

In the maintenance guide there is a list of part numbers on page 49

I have no idea why the specification is like it is but this is the information I found.

People are using their precious remaining lifetime to try and help, so it is common courtesy to come back and tell what the solution eventually was even if you found it elsewhere. It is for the benefit of everyone.

That center pin communicates with Power Management and the CPU to regulate the power that is needed.

It will help to extend the life of the laptop battery by not charging when it is not needed.

It will allow the laptop to draw only the power that it needs.
