6910p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a used Elitebook 6910p on eBay and the seller sent a HP OEM AC adapter that is rated for 18.5 V  /  3.5 A

The label on the bottom of the laptop says 19 V / 4.74 A

I didn't notice this before.

So, it looks like they sent me an 65W AC adapter but this laptop needs 90W.

If I buy a charger that is not HP-branded, will it still work or will I have to fork over $$ for a genuine HP AC adapter?

I never ran the HW diagnostics on any of mine because the chargers work fine on all 3 of my notebooks.

But you are right...according to the specs, only the 90W charger is offered...page 10.

So, I don't think you wasted your money.

The 90W charger will charge the notebook faster.

I got all of mine from eBay, and I got the 65W chargers with mine.

Looks like they are handing out the 65W charger from the nc6400...see page 8.

Hi:

The one you were sent is the standard P/S that comes with the nc6400 notebook.

I have a nc6400, 6910p and 6930p notebook, and every power supply is the same...65W with the same info as the one you were sent.

My 6910p and 6930p even have the more powerful AMD graphics adapters.

But when I ran HP Diagnostics, it said that I had the wrong AC adapter.

I don't remember the exact error message.

The AC adapter test showed as "Cancelled".

When I ran the HP Diagnostics, the AC adapter also got very warm to the touch.

If what you say is true, I just spent $11 + tax for something I don't need.  Sigh.

I used the serial number of the laptop on partsurfer.hp.com and it only showed 90W as the only AC adapter choice which is why I became concerned. The one the seller sent was fine and even charged the battery.

Thanks for your help.

The 90W charger should arrive next Wednesday.

You're very welcome, and thanks for letting me know I have been using the wrong adapters on the 6910p and 6930p notebooks I have.

I'm not concerned, as they I have used the 65W adapters for years on these things now.
