EliteBook 8460p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hello
I have HP EliteBook 8460p, I want to change my HDD with SSD.
I wanted to enter BIOS but it is password locked and I don't know that password.
My laptop is out of warranty and I don't know if I find get official support anymore.
Is there any way to unlock BIOS ?

Thanks, Josip

Contact HP and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

Phone >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

Chat >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.

Or download these files.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0

Insert clean USB flash drive.

Then run USB Image tool.

Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE.

After restore remove flash drive.

Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ”If an HDD is installed remove before booting.”

At C:\OUTPUT   type CD..   “Then hit enter”

Type HPBR   “Then hit enter”

First thing is to save your settings.

Select #3 re-program.

Press “S” to save system information.

Type HPBR and hit enter.

Select   “FIRST RUN”

Then select model.

After reboot repeat same as above but this time SELECT, “SECOND RUN”

If you cannot boot from USB flash drive use Options in the Image tool to build a HDD.

Then use the drive to boot the program on the locked laptop.

I removed HDD.

I can boot from USB, made #3 re-program to save information, but on “FIRST RUN” i get error

"Failed  to load defaults, error code :89"

My bios version is 68SCF Ver.F.63

I tried live chat but they stopped when I said that I'm from Croatia and not US, and on Croatia HP support site I don't have option to live chat, so I don't know any other way to unlock it

At the end of the day, I can say that I'm really disappointed with official HP support. US live chat don't want to help me because I'm in other region. I don't get it, it is a technical issue, I doesn't matter where I'm located. In my country I can't do live chat, can't find email support, nothing. I tried UK chat support but chat is not working.
So I'm stuck because nobody from HP wants to help me
