Bios password reset on Elitebook 840 g1

HP Recommended
elitebook 840 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Elitebook that I need to get into the bios. The previous IT technician applied a password to the bios and failed to pass this information along.

I have tried contacting support for a smc.bin file but they refused to provide it. What am I supposed to do now? The machine is so old it isn't worth replacing the board in it, as they suggested.

Any suggestions?

Hi:

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to help you, since HP will no longer supply the required SMC.bin file that is used to clear the BIOS password.

That was the only way it could be done.

HP issued this document recently...

Also the forum rules were amended on 1 March 2019, which no longer allow us to help with removing passwords.
