Zbook 17 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Everyone,

I just recently got my new Zbook 17 G5 and it is having some serious issues. The PL1 turbo power limit of the CPU is set to 23W instead of the 55W as it should be. On the first day (26th Feb) it was working perfectly fine as expected, but since then it's been stuck at 23W. At this limit the CPU is basically running at 2.0GHz and has very poor performance. I tried reinstalling Windows, even installed Linux in between of Windows reinstalls, updated all drivers, re-flashed BIOS, everything I could. The limit is still stuck at 23W. I can install intel XTU and manually set it to 55W but after some time it reverts back to 23W. Please keep in mind that this is NOT termal throttling, this is purely power limit related. Did HP mess up the firmware and set this on an unlocked CPU, or something is wrong with my device? The performance is a joke for a 5500EUR device as it is... If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please kindly let me know.

Thanks,

Mark

Did you install the Intel DPTF driver in your ZBook? Softpaq SP87672... you can use HP Image Assistant to help with driver updates

BTW, i also found some tidbits on the web at https://www.wintips.org/fix-cpu-not-running-at-full-speed-in-windows-10/#method-4 that might help... HP is investigating to understand the problem

Hi Soccer_dan,

Apparently this seems to have resolved my issue. I had to manually install the package, because HP Support Assistant either didn't download it at all, or installed an incorrect version. Thank you very much for the help!
