I want to be sure that 90w 19v HP adapter will not harm HP 840 G2 laptop. Any respnses would be helpful.

Yes that is a 90W SMART adapter.

You will have no problems.

 

The adapters for that model are SMART adapters.

The center pin is used to help regulate the Voltage and Amps.

Perharps I should have been more precise. I have a HP 609940-001 adapter and I do not know if it is smart.
