HP Elitebook 840 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, everytime I switch off the lap top the fan starts spinning at high speed. This also happens in sleep mode. The lap top is not hot at all and it will happen even if the lap top has been up for 1 minute. As soon as you switch the lap top back on the fan stops immediately. Extremly annoying. Can anyone help? Thanks, Han

Hello @Han333

Welcome !

EB 840 G1 is a great device but is a bit older. Your issue could be hardware related (needs a service) or it could be related to dust, firmware, etc.

1. You need to make sure BIOS settings are correct, BIOS is updated. Latest BIOS is from May 2020 and has a lot of fixes and improvements in it. Download and install it >> https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp102001-102500/sp102452.exe

2. Check this HP article and follow the steps >> https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c01657439

3. Check the attached PDF file <below> with troubleshooting steps on Fan always on issues

4. Perform hard reset:
