HP Envy 15 ep0500na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi All,

There are some keyboard function/characters that I can't obtain on this Envy 15 laptop - it's incredibly frustrating!

1. The INS key. I've searched the community for this and people have mentioned a combination involving the PrtScr key, but that's not working for me. Give that the keyboard doesn't have a numeric keypad, PC World said that the 'm' key would typically map to the '0' on a numeric keypad, so to try that, but no joy.

2. The | symbol (vertical bar/pipe) is shown on the 'L' key, but I've tried lots of combinations and can't get that to show either.

Not sure if it's relevant but I've currently got my keyboard set to English (UK). I'd be so grateful if anyone can help with this.

@yorkshire-bear Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are unable to find the insert key.

The 0 Key at the bottom of the number pad on the upper-right corner of your keyboard will function as an Insert Key when Num Lock is turned off. That is why it is labeled with both 0 and Ins on the key itself.

Note that the Shift Key can act as a temporary toggle for Num Lock when you press one of the keypad keys (just like the Shift Key acts as a toggle for capital letters). Therefore, when Num Lock is on, pressing Shift + Numpad-0 will function as an Insert Key.

Pleaase, update the BIOS.

Try updating the computer, this will install the latest updates -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

This just will not work for me. I am trying to fill out some medical forms which came through Google Drive; this is going to be tedious without an 'overtype' function. The 0/INS key will not toggle anything.

(It doesn't help that this HP model does not have an indicator light for NUMLOCK. It's always a guess as to whether it's on or not. Which designer made that call?!?)

@Sebakhet

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggest you conatct our phone support and check for the support option. They will help you.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.

1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

We are experiencing longer than expected wait times to reach an agent due to the CoViD-19 impact and there might have been issues in you getting the expected resolution on the issue.

Have a nice day!!
