Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP8770w with a K5000m gpu. Serial# [Personal Information Removed].  Can i put a GTX980m gpu in it?  No Dreamcolor display.

You can use cards on the following list as mentioned on page 115 of the manual:

 

  • AMD FirePro M5950 XT-GL 1GB GDDR5 (DP 1.2 and Eyefinity Plus support) part # 689279-001
  • NVIDIA Quadro 5010M, N14E-Q5 4 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory part # 689282-001
  • NVIDIA Quadro 4000M, N14E-Q3 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory part # 689281-001
  • NVIDIA Quadro 3000M, N14E-Q1 2 GB dedicated GDDR5 video memory part #  689280-001

There have been reports of very successful upgrades on the EliteBook 8770w with both GTX 980 and GTX 1070. People tried these upgrades years ago (up to 2019) and you can read about their efforts in:

Unfortunately the notebookreview site has gone offline for several months now, so use wayback machine (February 2020 snapshot is good).
