HP EliteBook 840 G4 Freezing, and slow response

HP Recommended
HP Elitebook 840 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This issue has been going on for about 2 years now. We have a client with the Elitebook 840 G4 with 4GB RAM, and spinning drive. It is running Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

It is an intermittent issue, in fact HP have taken the systems off site, but have not been able to re-produce the problem.

The system boots up to the welcome screen. The user types <CTRL><ALT><DELETE> to get to the login prompt, but some times it can take up to 2 hours for the prompt to appear, some times it never appears and they have to switch off, and switch on the system.

The second issue is the system goes to sleep, and never wakes up, or takes an extremely long time to do so.

We have tried multiple operating system images, even ones supplied by HP, but with no success.

We did change the spinning disk for an SSD, and this system has since worked correctly. Unfortunately the client cannot afford to upgrade all the laptops with SSD drives

The HP call reference is Case and reference numbers - Case Number 5022035955 CRM:0015375003450

If anybody has any suggestions on how we can fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated.'

Kind regards

Andrew Rycroft
