HP Elitebook G5 - biometric device failure causing WLan auto config service to stop

HP Recommended
HP Elitebook G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So an ongoing issue I am having is that the Biometric device on G5's keeps failing - this then causes several windows services to stop:

wlanautoconfig

netlogon

It also causes the black screen of death - however windows does get to the login screen after around 10-15 minutes.

I keep the windows images up to date in terms of drivers using HP image Assistant - so am using recommended drivers, I have resorted to physically disconnecting the finger print reader from the mobo. Any one else had this??
