HP Elitebook Trackpad: Click Options

HP Recommended
Elitebook 840 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Let me start with some context, there are a few way ways to "click" on this laptop:

1) using the two buttons at the top of the trackpad for right and left click

2) "tap to click" where you tap anywhere on the track pad to click without putting any pressure on it - this does not result in an audible click sound

3) press (with moderate pressure) anywhere on the trackpad to click - this does result in an audible click

The third option is my preference but it has stopped working for me. I have tried to reset the touchpad setting but that did not help. Any guidance would be appreciated!
