My motherboard randomly blew out 8 months out of warranty. I have never dropped the computer, or overheated it. I also take care not to overcharge it. I would like to speak to HP customer service on how this apparently common issue can be helped.
I am surprised that there has not been a recall or a class action lawsuit regarding this computer. This is far too expensive of a device to have hundreds of unresolved service requests for the same issue that is completely out of customers' control.

Hello.
This is not official HP support channel, just a peer-to-peer help forum. I can only recommend calling HP support and opening a case and ask to escalate / speak to manager if you can't get a satisfying solution. Do not mention a lawsuit in your conversation, the support personnel everywhere are taught to hang up immediately when those magic words are said.
Now, how common is this issue really? HP has sold several different laptops under the same Spectre 360 moniker for almost a decade now with likely more than 100 different motherboard configurations. Is your model one with lots of mobo problems? How do you know? Of course, nothing prevents you from opening a (class action) lawsuit. Also, remember to vote with your feet (although the grass ain't always greener on the other side).
Also, there is a reason why computer manufacturers sell additional warranties... In some countries/states the Consumer Rights trump over manufacturer's warranties, so check your local consumer rights. 20 month lifetime for an expensive business class laptop would be unacceptable for me as well, I feel your pain.
In any case, the motherboard - system board in HP parlance - is a very expensive part along with the touch screen, but both can be replaced. Look out for broken screen Spectre x360's of the same generation with an intact motherboard - or offer to sell your screen and other parts to those with smashed their screens to get some of your money back. Check the HP Maintenance and Service Guide for your laptop model to check which mother boards are listed and thus compatible. The difference in compatible motherboards is usually just the built-in CPU and discrete graphics option.
