HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook PC (26D60AV)

I have two external monitors plugged into a Thunderbolt dock. The Thunderbolt cable from the dock is then plugged into my EliteBook laptop to connect to the monitors. This works seamlessly most of the time but when I stop working for the day, I typically put my computer in sleep mode or I forget to and just leave it on which ends up locking it down automatically after a set period of time.

The problem is, when I come back the next day, or if I leave my desk for an extended time and come back to my computer in sleep mode/locked down, when I go to login my laptop *sometimes* (I'd say about 50% of the time) isn't recognizing the thunderbolt cable so its not connecting to my external displays. I try unplugging the chord and plugging it back in, I try the 2nd thunderbolt port I have on my computer and still it doesn't work. I always end up having to close out all my apps and shutdown/restart my PC in order for it to recognize the thunderbolt dock again. This is very annoying and I want to see if there is a fix so this wont happen anymore.

Any advice is appreciated!
