HP USB C Mini Dock
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP USB C Mini Dock not allowing pass-through charging.

When the dock is connected WITHOUT power - HDMI screen and USB Mouse and Keyboard work.

When the dock is connected WITH power - HDMI screen and USB Mouse and Keyboard DO NOT work.

USB C Charger is 65W HP charger that came with laptop - Elitebook X360

Product brand new. This is the second unit I have tried.

HP USB C Mini Dock firmware updated.

All Windows 10 updates applied.

The possible explanation is that the port to which you have the dock connected does not support the operation.

Depending on the model / computer,  ports might (only) provide data transfer - others provide charging for small devices only (for example, watches, phones, etc).   Some ports provide display support as described in the User Guide for the machine.

You can find the information for your system and determine the port connection types.

  • Open Support Home >> Enter the full model name
  • When the website opens, select category Manuals
  • Look for and open the Maintenance and Service guide or User Guide for your computer (document name varies)
  • Look for section "right side" / "left side" for a description of the ports and port operation parameters
