Hi I’m having issues with my Hard Drive. Sometimes I’m able to log in to windows and the desktop loads eventually and other times it just can’t boot.

Ive ran a hard drive DST test and I’m getting the following Failure ID :

9GF5BA-8RH9RJ-MFPUQ1-60W003

i need to copy a couple of folders with important data in them so don’t want to lose that but it keeps crashing before I get to copy them to cloud storage (if I manage to get that far!).

Please advise what to do next? I’m not sure what I can do.

Thanks

Hi:

The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure, means the hard drive needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the drive with a better performing, normally more durable solid state drive.

After you replace the hard drive you can reinstall W10 by using the HP Cloud Recovery tool.

This package provides the Cloud Recovery Client for supported models running a supported operating system. This Client Utility enables users to download the Recovery Kit from the cloud.

I have attached a file below for how to use the cloud recovery tool.

Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to recover any files off the drive, but you could toss a little money at it, get a SATA to USB hard drive adapter cable, plug the failed drive into a working PC, and see if you can retrieve the files that way.

Something like this...
