Hi @Akase_I,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble adjusting the brightness on your HP laptop, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue. Please follow these steps.

  • Check Keyboard Shortcuts: Most laptops have dedicated keyboard shortcuts to adjust screen brightness. Look for the brightness control keys on your laptop's keyboard (usually represented by a sun icon or a combination of function keys, like Fn + F5/F6) and try using them to increase or decrease the brightness.
  • Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor software glitches that may be causing the issue. Save your work and restart the laptop to see if the brightness control starts working again.
  • Check Power Settings: Incorrect power settings can affect the screen brightness. Ensure that your laptop is not running in power-saving mode or any other mode that may limit screen brightness. You can adjust the power settings in the Control Panel (on Windows) or System Preferences (on macOS).
  • Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause issues with screen brightness control. Visit the official HP support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download the latest graphics drivers for your specific laptop. Install the drivers and check if the issue is resolved.
  • Check Display Settings: On Windows, right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings." Make sure the brightness slider is set to an appropriate level. On macOS, go to "System Preferences" > "Display" and adjust the brightness slider there.
  • Run Windows Update: If you're using a Windows laptop, make sure you have installed all available updates. Sometimes, updates can include fixes for hardware-related issues.
  • Disable Adaptive Brightness (Windows): Windows has a feature called "Adaptive Brightness" that automatically adjusts the screen brightness based on ambient lighting conditions. This can sometimes interfere with manual brightness adjustments. To disable this feature, go to "Control Panel" > "Power Options" > "Change plan settings" (next to your selected power plan) > "Change advanced power settings." Look for "Display" > "Enable adaptive brightness" and set both "On battery" and "Plugged in" to "Off."
  • Check for BIOS Update: Visit the HP support website and check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop model. If there is a newer version, follow the instructions to update the BIOS, as it may address hardware-related issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
