Product: HP ZBook Studio G5 Mobile Workstation
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Is the G4 with cable safe to power the HP Studio G6 zBook?  I don’t want to fry the laptop if dock doesn’t step-down from 280W to 100W.

The cable is designed to do that work. That is safe. It negotiates itself to get the right voltage and current (ampere) to feed your computer.
