HP ProBook 5320m Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

About a year ago the original battery of my 5320m notebook started failing.

In march 2017 I bought an original replacement battery for the laptop (HP FN04) which worked fine up till 2 weeks ago.

Suddenly it was as if the battery would no longer hold a charge and the percentage would drop to 0% within minutes, forcing the OS to shut down. I tried to charge the battery for a longer period of time to see if there would be some improvement, but the problem consisted. I completely removed the battery for a while, using the laptop only connected to mains.

Today put the battery back in to check it again before sending it in for warranty.

To my surprise the system booted casually with the battery level still at 0%. I expected system to fail within minutes, but the laptop kept on running like normal (on battery power) for well over 4 hours.

Can anyone explain to me what is going on here?

Is there a way to recalibrate the battery or is this some component in the laptop failing rather than the battery?
