Dear community,
I have a 15" HP Spectre, but noticed recently that the front bottom case is opening up- almost like something expanding inside.
It has been a while since I had this laptop - almost 4yrs and 11 months, and it never failed me.
I did a bit of reading, and it seems that it is because of a battery expansion.
How do I get it repaired, and would it be covered under warranty given it is a defect in design?
Thanks,

Hello.
I recommend reading the Maintenance and Service Guide for your Spectre model, and the part about battery replacement in pages 30-32. Decide for yourself if you can service the laptop yourself. The HP spare part number is L29184-005 (as listed by the same guide), but there are probably many compatible 3rd party batteries if your feel HP batteries are inferior.
Do note that reattaching the rubber foot strips on the laptop bottom may require additional adhesives or complete replacement (spare parts are available) so store them carefully while you are servicing the laptop.
As to your warranty claim - you can always ask HP support whether they have a battery replacement program for your model. You can check your local consumer protection laws or contact an ombudsman to find out if they have any leverage over HP - but your battery is now 5+ years old, and is considered a "consumable", like tyres in a car.
