I recieved hp probook 430 g3 as a gift.
It originaly came with a 500gb hdd, i decided to upgrade it with a 500gb. M2 nvme ssd [samsung 980] and replace the old hdd with 1 tb hdd from my old laptop.
Now, when i install the m2 the laptop wont boot. I press the power buttton but nothing happens, the button becomes lightly dimmed but nothing works. Laptop returns to working condition after the m2 is removed. Is there some strange compatability issue.
My bios is N78 ver. 01.47 04\27\2020

Thanks for reply and linking me that pdf, it thankfuly also lists the capacity. This really kills my storage capacity.
From 4.150 gb to a measly 1.250 gb.
I entertained idea of 3d printing a custom bottom panel so i can fit my 4tb drive but the **bleep** sata port is flipped so that idea went to trash.
Thanks for the help, this helped me a lot.

Hello Uni008.
I think you've misunderstood part of Paul_Tikkanen's answer. He is absolutely correct that your laptop doesn't support pci express m.2 drives and only supports the older sata3 ones. As you can read in the manual. However, I don't think he meant for you to look at the sizes of the drives and assume that these are the maximum allowed capacities. These are just the replacement parts/drives that HP sells for this laptop.
If you take a look at the specification page for your model:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-probook-430-g3-notebook-pc/7834547/document/c04789379
you read that it "Supports SATA, 7 mm/9.5 mm, 2.5 in Hard Drives" and in Storage and drives: "2 TB 5400 rpm hard drive Height 9.5 mm (0.37 in)" and of course:"Solid state drive 128 GB 2280 M2 SATA-3".
What this basically means is that you can buy a cheap mechanical hdd of 2tb (since the larger ones are 15mm in height) or a 4tb (or even 8tb) 2.5'' sata3 ssd and replace the 500gb hdd. Also, you can buy the largest m.2 sata3 drive you can find, and put it in the m.2 bay. There is no limit placed by HP to the capacity of the m.2 drives. If you're able to find a 2280 860 evo 2tb it will work perfectly. That's pretty much the maximum capacity of sata3 m.2 drives out there.
So your laptop can support dual drive configs with the capacity of 2tbHDD/2tbM2 or 4-8tbSSD/2tbM2.

Thanks for your reply, i know that it can accept bigger storage, but im on a budget, ssds are not cheap, i got mine trough used market, the nvme [980 evo] was brand new and the ngff 250gb that i got has 86% life left in him. I wish there were used 1tb sata m2 for sale near me but all i found were 2 listings for 1tb nvme and the highest one for sata was 250gb, they still arent cheap. On amazon the sata version is 100+ euros. That is too much. Regular ssd-s arent cheaper, and their capacity is 250 to 500gb in used market. there were few at 1 tb but they were 4x the price of the m2 i got.
I will have to endure with what i have for now
