My netbook suddenly only charges when it is turned on.

I'm not sure, but I suspect it is since the following event:

I booted the computer with a Linux retro gamemulation from the USB drive (batocera V35).

Then the computer ran until the battery was empty. The computer went off abruptly because the retro gamemulation apparently has no power management.

Since then, the power supply only charges the battery when the computer is on. It doesn't matter if the computer runs with Windows or runs the Retro Gamemulation or just shows up in the BIOS screen. In all cases, the battery is charged and the charging LED on the front of the computer lights up orange.

If the computer is turned off, then neither the charging LED is lit, nor is the battery charging.

Here's what I've tried so far:

- Removed battery, waited 20 minutes and reinstalled battery.
- Updated the BIOS to the latest version 1.31.

- [added okt/19/ 2022] Uninstalled and reinstalled the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device

- [added okt/19/ 2022] I tried also this extended advice: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Laptop-won-t-charge-when-shut-...

All methods did not help. Does anyone have any helpful advice?

Thanks a lot.

Markus

I have achieved a small partial success:

Now, I have activated the following setting in the BIOS: Advanced / Device Configuration / Deep Sleep Mode.

I don't know what these entries are called in a native English BIOS, I just translated them from German to English.

If this option is active, then the charging LED remains active after shutting down the notebook and the laptop is charged.

However, if I unplug the power supply in this state and then plug it back in, then the notebook does not continue to charge and the LED stays off. So, as it was already without the BIOS setting "deep sleep mode" enabled.
