This is version 3 of set of posts which looks at the problem of a Win10 PC going to sleep early. It describes the results of my investigations which have been going on since the end of 2017.

My Win-10 laptop began going to sleep too early in 2017, and all the suggestions for setting the timeouts to "never" and such like made no difference at all. I did a lot of research and discovered this problem seems to be wide-spread.

After much research and experimenting I conclude that it may be to do with pressing the sleep button. See below.

I am not talking about the screensaver - this is definitely Sleep Mode.

By accident I discovered that pulling out the battery in sleep mode would resolve the problem for a while. But this is risky and I had to recover it from a "blue-screen" error once which was a heart-stopping experience. However, the trouble-free period was very variable and apparently not related to anything I was doing.

So I have been monitoring the laptop since late 2017 and recording instances of the early sleep mode occurring. In addition, I noticed my temp folder size growing, so I arranged for the folder size to be displayed on startup. It can reach 100Mb after a few days, so I clear it out manually.

Anyway, during the last week of 2018 I had reason to suspect that early timeout begins after using the sleep button. So I have only been shutting down, and not using the sleep button since midday on the 30th December 2018.

I invite others with this problem to try this too and report the results.

==Update 20/01/2019==

Not only has normal sleep mode continued, but the temp folder size has remained constant at around 0.7Mb. On this evidence I would say that there is something very wrong with the mechanisms that manage sleep mode.

I have the same problem. Have you had any resolution / more information?

Apologies for the delayed reply. I've just noticed your post.

No there has been no resolution. I never use the sleep mode button now, but since identifying the source of the problem, I have not had any further issues. As the PC starts and shuts down quickly, I don't miss the sleep mode.
