Hi @Jonathan210,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY 17.3 Inch Laptop PC won't power up and was left on overnight, and it feels hot to the touch, there could be several potential issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.
- Let it cool down: Before attempting anything else, allow the laptop to cool down completely. Unplug it from the power source and remove the battery if possible. This can take some time, so be patient.
- Check power source: Ensure that the laptop is connected to a working power source. Try using a different power outlet or a different power adapter to eliminate the possibility of a faulty power source.
- Inspect the battery: If your laptop has a removable battery, check for any signs of damage or swelling. A damaged or swollen battery may need to be replaced.
- Perform a hard reset: Disconnect the laptop from the power source, remove the battery (if possible), and then press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. This helps discharge any residual power and can sometimes resolve issues.
- Check for overheating: If the laptop feels hot, it may have overheated. Overheating can cause the system to shut down or fail to start. Make sure the laptop is on a flat, hard surface to allow for proper ventilation. If possible, clean the vents to ensure proper airflow.
- Inspect for physical damage: Examine the laptop for any physical damage, such as broken components or loose connections.
- Connect to an external display: If the laptop is powering up but you can't see anything on the screen, connect it to an external monitor to see if the display is the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
