SED: Select user to login - No user

HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

When booting, the SED (self encrypted drive, hardware encrypted?) normally ask me for a password and probably has a default user suggested since I just start to type the password without looking at the screen.

Has worked some years but now there is no user to select. Only possibility is a restore button that asks for a restore key.

This occured sat 30 dec and no notifications about recent windows updates as I remember.

The computer was left on from day before and was thus in windows login mode. I could not log on using my ordinary user (not admin) and password. It is annoying but from my experience not too alarming since it happens now and then. Just restart, lose the not saved work, and the system allows log on again with the same credentials as recently was not functional.

When rebooting this time, I pressed a little too short and the system first went into sleep. I have then restarted some times and also took out the main battery a while, but still no user.

Any ideas on how to get back a user? In case there is one per windows account, I have both the normal user and an admin.

Seems to be an issue without solution.

Data loss

Software loss

Anyone knows how to format a locked down SED?  If not, I will have to add hardware loss.

Grand Total; loss of trust
