ProBook 470 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Occasionally, a strange chemical smell emanates from my HP ProBook 470 G4 laptop. This is usually, but not always, accompanied by a short, sharp sound within the laptop. The sound brings to mind something between a spark and a discharge from a spray nozzle.

The effect is that my nostrils get irritated and I sneeze. Just for a moment. But there's nothing visible in the air around.

I discovered this some weeks ago. The laptop works without any trouble.

A similar issue, also with an HP laptop, was reported here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Weird-Chemical-Smell-coming-out...

Do you know what causes the problem? Could you please suggest a solution?

Many more HP users have in fact reported the "smell" problem. See, for example,
