Microsoft Windows 11

I have a brand new 445 G9 Probook with a somewhat interesting problem.  This laptop supports DisplayPort, Power Provision and Consumption over USBc.

When I connect the device to an external display source - for example a dock (of any brand) OR a monitor using USBc it works exactly as expected PROVIDED it is the first ever device of this type connected.

HOWEVER after a reboot or shutdown the output to the display over USBc will fail for any device from that point forward - Windows will display a 'Connection may be limited' message and any other connected device will only work at reduced USB speed (for example a USBc drive) with a message that the device could work faster.

I have tried the following:

  • Updated all drivers, Chipset, Graphics and anything else showing as being outdated.
  • Updated bios (none is available).
  • Reset bios to defaults.
  • Reinstalled OS from HP image.
  • Reinstalled OS from Microsoft image.

None of the above make any difference.

However, there is a work around.

If I complete a Power Reset of the laptop - https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1997208-1551050-16 everything will be back to working again albeit with starting back at the top of the problem.

This suggests that there may be something at play elsewhere here causing this type of reset to be necessary and it almost entirely rules out the OS as being a cause.  To be clear, this is not a cable problem, 'unsupported device' problem nor an outdated driver problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem at all? or have any suggestions?

Thanks

This is now fixed in the latest bios (01.09.01 Rev A - release 21/12) for my machine (manual check via the support pages), so would suggest checking if yours also has an update.
