My Elitebook 840 G1 running Windows 10 has no problem charging or picking up multiple displays connected by HP's Ultraslim Dock. However, my new-to-me 840 G5 running Windows 11, 64-bit does neither of these things.
- I have tried to run HP's Ultraslim Dock driver, but the error is saying that I need to update my BIOS which seems to have an Admin lock password on it. (refurbished business buy-back stock)
- I have run several other HP universal dock drivers, rebooted, but it didn't make a difference.
- I have tried different combinations of "unplugged" and "plugged" with the order of powering everything on.
- Might it possibly work if I roll-back to Windows 10 at this point?
I am obviously not a computer whiz, but this is my livelihood, and I need my large screens for detailed photo work.
Is someone, anyone able to help? I'm desperate.

New machine has new connections that why from time to time old dock won't work. Please use HP USB-C G5 (5TW10AA)
dock which is fully compatible with the HP 840 G5 machines.
Regards.

Thank you so much for your reply!
As I continue to look into this topic, in this forum as well as other forums (Microsoft, Reddit, random), I keep seeing comments/questions about multiple displays are no longer being detected out once Windows 10 was upgraded to Windows 11.
Following your suggestion, I'm worried that, if I change to the USB-C dock, my same issue will persist.
Might you have any additional insight regarding the Win 10 versus Win 11 thing?

I'm typing on my HP 840 G5 machine on an HP USB-C G5 dock right now. I ONLY need one single cable from machine to the dock. Turn on the dock will turn on the machine and turn off the machine will turn off the dock.
I also tested my HP USB-C G5 dock on few HP machines : My HP HP ZBook Firefly 14 inch G10 Mobile Workstation PC , my HP Envy 15-ee0047nr and my daughter's Dell machine. They all worked.
Regards.

@Banhien
Thank you so very much for going above and beyond when it came to testing all sorts of computers of yours to try and simulate my issue.
Based on your suggestion, I decided to buy a USB-C dock. I paid about triple of what I wanted to pay but I bought it from a reputable store instead of Kijiji or Marketplace (second-hand) so that, if USB-C wasn't my solution, I could take it back or have them troubleshoot in person. I'm glad I did it this way.
It easily connected with m y monitors and is charging my laptop.
My only short coming now is that I'm short one display port on my dock, so now I have to find a VGA to HDMI cable, or DP to HDMI so I can add my third monitor in.
