Solved!

Used HP laptop locked

HP Recommended
HP Elitebook 8440p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased this laptop from eBay. I was able to use it for a couple of weeks, then a page came up saying “This device has been locked due to security issue.” Then, it proceeds to give me the email address for the IT department of that company. I have reset the operating system, reset the BIOS settings, fully wiped the hard drive, and reinstalled the os. It worked for about 20 minutes after the reinstallation, and the page came back up. I’m out of options.

Hello

cases are two:

1) the laptop was stolen from that company

2) that company gave away the laptop but forget to disable a technology able to do what you see.

This is absolute agent and BIOS enable to use it.

Even if you resinstall Windows, as soon as you connect it to windows, it will contact Absolute Server and the notebook will download the agent.

when the agent in running in the OS, the PC will get instruction from the server. they can do everything on the computer.

Stop you to use it, delete file, copy file, wipe the disk.

They can even find where you are and call to policy if that notebook has been stolen.

Go back to the seller, and try to get back your money.

bye
