I have not bought a new computer in a couple years. I want to know why Or how these computers warranties seem to be per-activated?

I've seen a number of posts on here about this problem and also warranties being completely expired on a newly bought laptop.

I've bought phones, tablets and my older computers and have never ever seen registration done at the factory let alone being connected to the internet to do it unless the item was refurbished and already been activated by another owner.

So whats the answer? Are you selling used systems as new?

Hi Acridcola

Some computers my company sells have this kind of problem. I don't know why some warranty begins when a reseller receive its invoice from its wholesaler but simply contact the company where you bought the machine and ask them to update the warranty on your product.

If think it's related on how long the product stays in stock.

Thanks, Yeah just seems odd if HP is doing this to every single system selling to Walmart, Best buy, Target etc, there would be 1000000 complaints all the time all over the web, not just the  few I was able to find.

Also seems a bit dumb to still include the initial owner setup and registration software if HP Isn't going to use the date when the buyer first uses the system.  I hate dealing with CS so don't get the extra hassle of making the buyers jump through hoops to get what they paid for.

In the past if the buyer didn't register the system online or by mail, they still had to provide proof before CS would help.

I'm a pessimist, so I'm thinking repackaged returns being resold  or to dupe the unaware who can't find or get a receipt to get repairs, and some people have bought systems with the warranty already expired and weren't allowed to talk to CS without paying.

Anyway thanks for the reply

The following is only opinion...

I think HP puts some date by default regarding when the computer has left the factory/warehouse.

But it's the seller's duty to update the warranty date with the manufacturer.
