Im starting a new job and I need to choose a HP notebook. Maybe you can help. I dont want anything bigger than 15" and I perferably dont want it to weigh more than 2,5 kg (5,5 pounds). I need it to be able to hande pretty big 3D cad models and be able to handle 3D rendering. Cost is not an issue since my new job is paying 🙂 Also, I wouldnt mind if I can play GTA 5 on it 🙂

Funny you should ask. I actually have them both. I have a Zbook 15 G3 I use as my main production computer at the office. It is a very advanced mobile workstation and actually has the ability to have 2 x M.2 PCIe/NVME disks plus a hard drive and it has an MXM video card slot so you can install a removeable video card. The machine I have would likely cost close to $2500 to configure from HP. It is very sturdy and robust and weighs probably about 7 pounds. The top of the line Zbook can be made way more powerful than the Omen. It has optional Xeon processors available and can take up to 64 gigs of DDR4 memory! Mine has 16 gigs and 2 open memory slots. Can take up to 4 x 16 gig modules.

The Omen can only hold one NVME M.2 disk. HP loaned me for my use with the Forum the exact model I linked to you to look at and then I upgraded the M.2 to a 512 gig NVME/PCIe from a 128 gig SATA. The processor in the Omen is on par with the one I have in the Zbook; both are true Quad Cores. The Omen has a fixed video chip soldered to the motherboard so no upgrade is possible. The GTX 1050 Ti is kind of a lower middle tier card as far as the brand new video cards on the market now. Plenty of power to play GTA 5. May not fully render some of the more bleeding edge games, but will handle CAD easily. It is "switchable" which is not exactly optimal for gaming but can be made to work. Most of the time the video is Intel HD and you have to configure it to run games and such on the nVidia card. It is lighter, like just under 5.5 pounds and feels a bit less robust in your hands.

My Zbook has a Quadro M2000M, which is the only video card that is active so it is more like a desktop. The Quadro is an engineering workstation/CAD video card. It will game but the drivers are not optimized for games. It will render 3D images like a knife through butter however. A lot of Hollywood production companies use the Zbook Mobile Workstation for making animated movies.

Lastly 3 year warranty (Zbook) vs. 1 year warranty (Omen).

Hope that helps. Bottom line: different target markets. The Zbook is very sober and Republican looking. For the hardware you get, the price they are asking for the Omen is a great deal.

As long as work does not mind a little branding graphics on it have you looked at the Omen?

Should handle GTA 5 and your CAD with no problem.

This looks really great! Ive been looking at computers like the Spectre 360 and ZBook Studio. I understand why Spectre 360 is more expensive because its a completely different thing but I dont understand why the ZBook Studio costs so much more than the Omen? The preformance of the Omen seems to be much better than even the most expensive ZBook. Can you explain that to me?
