cracks in case lid corners

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Was hearing a cracking noise a few weeks ago when opening/closing laptop, and I  needed to gently snap the screen face back into the case lid.  Now, there are cracks in the plastic case on both right and left sides at the bottom of the case near hinges. I fear the whole top of case is going to crack apart, so I used a small piece of duct tape to reinforce the cracked areas.  It is still making a cracking noise when opening/closing and face separates from lid .  I see from previous postings this has been an ongoing problem with HP laptops, and I have a newer one.  Anyone else currently having this problem? Did you repair or replace, and if so, how costly?
