how to distinguish fake hp ram

HP Recommended

We would like to verify the ram installed in hp laptop or server whether is real or not. And we have checked the serial number with hp warranty lookup that had been expired the warranty.

The most I believe is publicly available is the brand and type of RAM that was factory fitted - which might subsequently have been replaced or upgraded with good quality components. Moreover, the factory RAM information might not be available for every machine, especially older machines.

If that information is of interest, go to HP PartSurfer, enter your country, the machine's serial number and click Advanced. If you are lucky, there will be a Component BOM that shows the parts used in the factory to build the system in question, and that BOM will include the memory. It's not foolproof; the machine I tried it on has the correct SK Hynix 16GB DDR4-2666 ECC SODIMM listed but it gives the quantity as 1 whereas the factory configuration was 2x16GB for 32GB total.

Software that reads the SPD information from the module(s) will help you identify whether they are legitimate, but fake modules might return fake SPD data. One non-free option on Windows is AIDA64 (look under Motherboard -> SPD) - there are likely many others.
