HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought this as a refurb, new with warranty early in the COVID pandemic.  The HP info shows the warranty expired before I even bought it! Or nearly so.

When you open the screen, the bottom edge protrudes farther down than the base--causing the whole laptop to lift up, breaking the plastic where the hinge screws into the base.  Now the upper left corner of the keyboard and palm rest assembly lift up out of the bottom case assembly and have cracked the bottom case assembly around the ethernet opening.  There are many online videos about this problem, most showing how to do a teardown and super glue the plastic screw anchors and brass inserts.

I have had other HP laptops and never had this problem.  I wonder if, because it was a refurb, the prior owner had dropped it or abused it somehow.  I am very careful with my equipment.  If it broke during my use, it was clearly a design or manufacturing defect.

Replacing the bottom case assembly requires  removing everything.  The part itself is not so expensive, but there is a lot of work involved.  HP should supply an improved case and pay for having everything professionally moved to the new case.

What is HP doing about this problem?
