EliteDesk 800 G5 Tower
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everybody,

I noticed with an HP EliteDesk 800 G5, that the Intel Management Engine firmware is not updated during a BIOS update if AMT is deactivated in the BIOS.
On the one hand this is only logical, but also kinda unpleasant since in the case of an automated update the IMEI is not updated and thus security vulnerabilities are not closed.
Because even if AMT is deactivated, certain parts of it unfortunately remain functional.

Is this behavior "by design"?
Is there a change planned by HP?
At least a info or a warning message (when updating with disabled AMT) would be appropriate in my opinion.

Thanks and greetings,
Martin

this is by design, as the virtual com3 port used by the updater is disabled if amt is disabled

you also need to know that the "MEI" is comprised of several parts that are seperated in function(s)

this is why the updater requires the AMT software to be installed, which usually also installs the com 3 driver

once these two parts are installed the MEI update can then  be performed,
