Hi there:
I just want to know if my HP Z420 (Boot Block 12/28/2011) will be able to handle the E5 2690 V2 CPU.
Already got 256 GB of RAM (Samsung/Crucial 8x32GB PC3-14900L DDR3, 1866 MHz) and I need a CPU that might be able to run it.
Thanks!

Some of the info in this legacy post is outdated, but the boot block date info will never change. Look HERE .
So, the bad news is that your motherboard is a v1 and cannot run v2 processors. The good news is that it is easy to find a v2 motherboard on eBay and transplant that into your box. I can do that in about 45 minutes... carefully pull up and tape out along the rim the different cables, pull and replace the motherboard, and replace the cables.
I can help you identify a v2 motherboard from eBay based on the bar code label often shown in the ads... figured that out.
Here we run single processor v2 Z620 workstations and the single-processor-only v2 Z420 workstations. Still running great, and under W11 22H2, Moment 2, and well worth the effort. The v2 motherboard running that fastest memory with a fast v2 processor will be great. Remember to upgrade the new motherboard's BIOS from within BIOS to the latest before upgrading to a newer type processor.
