HP Z640 Base Model Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Great day all,

I'm using the PCIe SSD drive for the OS (Win10 64 bit) and after BIOS flashing I can't find the HDD (Mechanical HDD) to use as storage. I tried to reflash the BIOS again many times but still can't find them on the OS (This PC & Disk management).

Please need your kind help.

and again..................the IDE setting is a improper one it is significantly slower

if the RAID/AHCI setting results in a non working drive, then the Intel "RSTe" driver has not been installed

go to the HP site for you model and download and install it, then change the bios to raid/ahci

some bios updates will reset the existing bios settings back to the saved factory defaults which may result in a no boot issue if someone changed the bios defaults

for 99.999% of users the correct/best HD bios setting is the DEFAULT RAID+AHCI setting all other settings are sub optimal and will result in slower performance

next for this poster, does the drive show in the Bios?

is the bios/system OS configured for legacy (MBR ) or UEFI?

is the boot drive order correct?, and does the boot menu show the mech drive

Thanks for your reply, the solution is to re-choose the IDE for detecting the mechanical drives in windows.

Appreciate your concern

Again really thank you DGroves , it is noticed that the workstation is very slow comparing to the specs it has.

I will take your advice and install the Intel "RSTe" driver. Hope detect the HDD.

Appreciate.
