When servicing HP Z440 HP 212B, PC233 PC232 elements were knocked down, can you tell me what these elements are?

@kanex-54,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I couldn’t find a direct identification of PC232 and PC233 in user threads, but here's what I think I could deduce based on HP’s documentation and standard electronics notation:

What "PC###" Components Typically Are:

  • On HP system boards (including the Z440, per the service manual), “PC” designators refer to passive components, typically capacitors or ferrite beads, depending on context.

  • The “P” often indicates a passive device, while “C” is used for capacitor.

Given the numbering (PC232/PC233), these are likely part of the power delivery or filtering circuitry on the board -used for decoupling voltage lines or smoothing noise from the power supply.

Unfortunately, HP does not publish detailed schematics or boardview files for the Z440 motherboard, so there's no official documentation to identify what components PC232 and PC233 are -whether they're indeed capacitors, ferrite beads, or something else -nor how to properly orient or replace them.

Without this information, it is very risky to guess or substitute components, especially since improper values or orientation could cause power delivery issues, system instability, or even further board and/or PC components damage.

Recommended Solution:

At this point, your best and most reliable option is to replace the motherboard. Z440 motherboards are available through:

  • eBay and other secondhand eCommerce parts marketplaces.

  • HP part number for the Z440 board is often 710324-001, 710324-002 or 761541-001, but double-check against your system’s configuration.

Whilst board-level repair is technically possible with the right equipment and schematics, it's generally not feasible for most users given the lack of documentation.

Kind Regards,
