The fact that you're already running the X5670 proves you have a version 2 Z800, not the version 1. You can look into BIOS and see your later boot block date to confirm this if you wish. To get answers about the version 2 motherboard's capabilities it is handy to find a late version of the HP QuickSpecs rather than an early one (which will tell you about the version 1 motherboard's capabilities).
Word of caution from the later QuickSpecs for the HP Z800 Workstation:
Intel® Xeon® processor X5687 and Intel® Xeon® processor X5690 REQUIRE the 1110W Power Supply Option.
So, make sure you have one of those, or get one. There is a link to a later version of the QuickSpecs, HERE:
You may know that the Z400 version 2 also can run a single X5690, which is undocumented by HP but which works great as my preferred processor upgrade for this workstation. It has dual QPI links, and thus can be run in a two processor workstation, and is officially supported by HP for the Z800 version 2 workstations. It will not work in the Z600 version 2, however, and I think that is because the Z800 has much more cooling capabilities than the Z600, and has that bigger power supply available.
Of interest, all of the Z400 version 2 workstations I've upgraded with the X5690 have had the regular 475W HP power supply. There is a 600W one from HP for the Z400 but I have not needed that. Maybe I would if I was running big hard drives and aggressive video cards in these, but I'm able to run a nice fast SSD and two video cards plus the X5690 in these with no issue. The video cards are for medical software.... Quadro 2000D and Quadro 2000, or Quadro K2000D and K2000..
