Dual Vega 56 with HP Z620 Report

so cut it short with help of some adapters I can boot into Windows and can select mgpu but when trying the Rise of the Tombraider benchmark its crashing hard the PC.

TDP of each gfx card is about 150/165W so it shoudl work but it doesnt

HP Z620 has newest Bios &  800W PSU & 16GB RAM & 1 CPU 

My guess is power supply should handle the load but it dont work out 

Any help what I can try?

I did some further testing

When I limit power to the vegas to -50% it works -40% it works -30% crash

despite the numbers dont real add it it seems the HP Z620 PSU cant supply dual gpu (at least no dual vega 56)

It appears that the Vega 56 is a 210W gpu, giving 420W total?

That would certainly explain why the system is crashing when the gpu's are under heavy load.

well I did expect a close call with 800w PSU but my gaming rig has only one cpu and only 16gb ram so I expexted with some tweaking to get a dual V56 running but no way

I already tweaked down from dual V64 to dual V56 but that didnt helped

atm I keep one V56 installed and sell the other until I maybe get a 2080 or 2080 ti

the AMD Vega cards are not that good for Z620 as PSU is somewhat limted

too bad for 400 bucks a dual V56 setup would be awesome but doesnt work out with Z620 🙂

I strongly guess that TDP was not the issue but the Vega 56 peak power

A dual Vega 56 with dual peak power was possible the crash issue and cant be fixed other then remove one Vega 56 or switch to Nvidia card

Calaudude,

The Vega 56 when overclocked can exceed the performance of the Vega 64 and if the TDP is ruining the performance of the dual configuration, that may be an option.  Consider first running a gaming benchmark such as Firestrike on a single Vega 56 and then overclock it. Compare the results with the original; they may be acceptable to your use.

Options:  Of course the RTX 2080 Ti  and RTX 2080 are extremely competent GPU's.  The RTX 2070 too can in some games exceed the performance of the GTX 1080 Ti and is not incredibly expensive- less than two Vega 56's certainly. I've thought of replacing a GTX 1070 Ti  with a 2070 in a z620, but am waiting for a possible "Quadro RTX 2000" first. Finally, the new AMD Radeon VII, while still having some troubles due to it's newness, has  a lot of promise. That is by the way a 295W card.  AMD GPU's do seem to require more power to the same performance than NVIDIA.

I had a REadeon VII here in front of my HP z620 but I dont even bothered to try out. Reviews and performance was not good enough so I sold it

the dual Vega was not working at all on Z620 even underclocked with minimal TDL I guess its the Powerspike issue

Now I know why they ask for 650W even for a single Vega 56

maybe I keep the Vega 56 until I replace it for something better .

small update the msi Vega 56 is random crashing in both of my Z620

even my kids complain "new card has game bugs"

dont know what to do. possible will replace with 2080

According to one of your previous posts, the Flawless RTX 2080 Ti does work in the Z620;

However, as with most new GPU's when launched, the initial drivers can be a bit buggy in certain applications or games. Personally, I would suggest you install a GTX 1080 Ti if you use your system for gaming. I have the GTX 1080 Ti and a Quadro P2000 installed in my Z620 which runs any game at max. settings in 1080P mode and works very well even at 4K settings. Also, there are plenty of CUDA cores if you are GPU rendering. My system is configured for both 3D CAD and high end gaming.
