Hi,
I have had a similar problem to someone who has posted in the gaming desktop section. All I did was unplug a keyboard dongle from the front port and the plastic piece just fell out. The USB port still works however I'm acuity aware that it's only a matter of time before the pins get bent or broken causing bigger issues.
My HP G9 is basically brand new and like the other person wrote I've plugged accessories in and out of USB ports thousands of times and never had this happen. I've tried to get this repaired under warranty but was also told that I have damaged it so it's a chargeable repair. I asked the assistant (who herself to be fair was very nice) to check with someone again as I have not damaged the USB port I just unplugged my keyboard. The assistant again after putting me on hold come back and said that it's induced damage so not repairable under warranty and then added that if I don't pay £450 to get it repaired this is logged so if anything happens in the future that causes a motherboard problem it will not be covered by warranty. I'm quite honestly shocked that a company of this size would try to pull a move like this. The unit is pristine other than the USB tongue.
There were a few other aspects of the interaction I was unhappy with that I feel needs addressing.
Can someone please help me with an official contact for complaints as all I seem to be doing is getting connected back to the same team?
Kind regards
David

you can try these suggestions
for now install a usb extender cable in the damaged port
https://www.amazon.com/12-inch-usb-extension-cable/s?k=12+inch+usb+extension+cable
find a local HP authorized repair ship and have them replace the damaged port,
which may be cheaper than the HP repair board replacement quote
buy a used replacement board off of ebay yourself, or a complete used system of the same or different model
last, not seeing your system all i can do is comment that i have seen lots of user caused damage to usb and older ps2 ports where the user was unaware that they were the cause of the damaged ports due to improper removal methods
if you truly did not cause the damage, a 3ed party HP auth shop might be able to help by contact hp in your behalf

Thank you for your time. I actually recieved a few calls today trying to get me to proceed with the £400 repair.??..
For now I have just purchased a silicone USB plug and will not use it. I've tried looking for a local place but there is not any.
I've tried looking for a local place but there is not any. I would get an electronic repair shop to swap the port myself but I can find a replacement port, so frustrating.
