Hi,

Kindly help me to configure HP AP 5000 POS serial interface MSR. After installing Windows 7, it stopped working.

Earlier same MSR working with inbuilt Windows XP OS.

I have installed and tried with all available MSR drivers of HP site.

both XP and windows 7 are no longer supported by HP or microsoft

HP drivers and manuals can be found here

i suspect the serial device is not actually a coms port, but the serial interface for a device such as  "MSR" devices

look at this section  Software-PoS - MSR (11)

Since it was working under XP I bet it is a driver issue that Paul T in the group is a guru on figuring out and possibly will be able to direct you to the exact installer.  He has a method for getting the exact hardware ID of the failed device and going from there.  Take a look in Device Manager for any "yellow bangs".  If present post a screen shot of that.

Please note that we are not HP... we are HP users helping each other, and that hardware is something almost none of us who help here have experience with.  In case you have not been able to find manuals that could help you I have attached a few HP links for your POS device.  I also highlighted a couple things on the smaller version, attached as a PDF below.  There are 3 serial ports, one of which is 12V and the other two are 5v.  There is info on configuring those with factory defaults highlighted.

I note that this supports 4GB RAM max, and that should be easy to upgrade from 2 to 4 if you match the first stick by getting access to it (if you only have 1 stick installed).  I'd match it exactly.  It has 2 bays for 2.5" drives, and option for SSD use.  If you search on that larger SSD shown it is a 160GB SATAII 320 series SSD, and the 320 series has larger capacity SSD drives also, up to 600GB.  I have bought these used off eBay for years, and low level format them with DBAN on a side computer, and then MBR format them with the built in disk management part of Device Manager also on a side Windows PC, and check their firmware for updating if available using the Intel ToolBox utility or the more recent equivalent as the last step installed on that side computer.

A tip... if you go this route don't buy the HP branded ones because they have a HP firmware that is unnecessary but disallows the SSD from being firmware updated to Intel's latest available for the drive.  Find one you want on eBay and look at the label.  There will be a HP part number printed on the label if it is a HP one.    You can also find good buys this way on recent Samsung ones that can be managed with the free Samsung SSD utility.  It would be nice to have SSD speed inside.  Below is an example without the HP brand or part number:

Processors, and you likely could upgrade if you have the slow one:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 (961 average CPU Benchmark score), or
Intel Celeron 440 processor (368 average CPU Benchmark score)

Main HP Support site for the device is:

See below for that highlighted PDF illustrated manual.  The big one is most valuable, from the link above.

EDIT:  I'll also try to attach the larger main manual for you... I don't think I'll hit the HP size limit.

THIS SYSTEM WAS ONLY SUPPORTED UNDER xp AND WINDOWS 7, there is no guarantee the existing drivers will work under later OS's

reinstall win 7, then open device manager, locate the unknown/missing driver devices and get their "device ID" using the devices "ID" and then google the device ID, this will usually identify which driver you require
