Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP 8300 ultra slim.  It has a i5 in it now and I have a free i7-3770.  I see online that it came with a option for a i7 3770S.  Can i use the i7-3770 instead of the S?

No.

Look HERE on page 6.  That one you have is for the SFF/MT/CMT, not the USDT.

Sell it on eBay and get the right one.

It lists the chip set that it accepts both SFF/MT/CMT, USDT

Then on this thread it says it works fine

What does USDT SFF/MT/CMT mean?

Hi, @Idle0095

The person in that link really doesn't say what processor he installed.

All he wrote was that the processor he installed worked and the one he was referring to was the Intel Celeron G1610T.

According to the specs, only the Intel® Core™ i7-3770S Processor is supported in the Ultra Slim Desktop (USDT) form factor PC.

To answer your other question...

USDT = Ultra Slim Desktop

SFF =    Small Form Factor

MT =     Minitower

CMT =  Convertible Mini Tower...you can remove the drive cage section and reposition it so the PC can lay on it side like the Small Form Factor does.

I guess you can try the processor in your USDT and see if it works.

Usually if it doesn't work, the PC will give you a set of beep codes,  it won't boot up, or it will give you a processor microcode error on boot.

I may just try it.  I just hate changeing out the CPU then if it doesnt work have to reinstall old CPU.

I agree with you.

It is a real pain and some risk involved in breaking something by removing and replacing over and over again.

But...the specs say no, so you will have to decide what you want to do.

HP Recommended

Ill just sell this and upgrade the PC to something newer.  The cost for the i7-3770S is the same as the PC.

HP Recommended

Get something bigger too, like at least a SFF.

If you have the room, get a MT or CMT.  They have better power supplies and more room for expansion.

This is in a 6U rack that runs security software so I need small.  I was looking at a 1U computer but the starting cost is about $600
