HP EliteBook 850 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello there,

we purchased a number of HP EliteBook 850 G5 i7 3JX60EA notebooks. All of them happens periodically, that the battery gets complete loss of power while the power supply is connected via USB-C port.

No error messages appear anywhere. System BIOS Q78 Ver. 01.00.05 01/25/2018

Is this a known issue and, if so, how can we resolve the problem?

Thanks for support

The issue finally was resolved with BIOS update Q78 Ver. 01.03.00 07/18/2018. Obviously this SoftPaq contains a new firmware for the WWan Module. 🙂

Anyway, in some cases - we've got 5 Notebooks with this issue  in use - the HP Technical Service had to replace the WWan Module hardware

are you using the correct 65 watt HP charger that came with the laptop? or are you using the HP 45 watt charger

the core i7 cpu's draw more power than the 45 watt charger can supply (IE- can not run laptop and charge battery)

read the link below for the HP part numbers for the chargers

Yes,of course:  we're all using the HP 65W AC power supply (Model No. TPN-AA03 / HP part no. 925740--004 / spare part # 860209-850) originally delivered with the machines

are you runing any applications that are using over 80% cpu  for a extended time?

have you checked the windows error logs to see if anything power related is being recorderd?

are you using the usb-c port for charging and and connecting another usb-c  device?

Today (05-29-18)  I flashed the BIOS from version 01.00.05 to the latest release 01.01.01. Now the computer starts with a POST Error:

Wireless Module not supported

The sysstem has detected a Wireless module installed in the system is not supported and has been disabled.

 WWAN Module ID (703)

POWER BUTTON - Power off

ENTER - Continue

your wan card is most likely not a HP oem one but a retail model, or a non approved wan module check who makes the module installed and that it is a HP labled model

To make it clear: we're talking about a set of 5 brandnew HP EliteBook 850 G5 i7 3JX60EA delivered by HP. No hardware modifications were made, we're just trying to use unmodified new hardware with Windows 10...
