Hi, hoping someone can help.

So i accidently brought a HP 800 G1 USDT and now i am having to transfer my SSD which has a UEFI OS (Debian based) installed on it (OMV) but when i plug it in to the USDT and change the BIO to UEFI only, when i reboot it will either give me 2 responses.

  1. Try and boot from PXE an then when that fails to boot it will come up with unable to boot and not do anything after
  2. Come up with a message saying attempting to boot from hard drive, and it will hang on this message, after 30 minutes nothing changes

I have tried the following

  • Clearing CMOS
  • Updating firmware to the latest version

But have had no luck, i have found this article online [content removed] which i can see my device has not been test but may work, am i correct in thinking i would need to install Windows OS then do the flash or would i be able to run the update using USB?

OR does anyone have any ideas i can try, ultimately i don't mind starting from scratch but if i can avoid it i would like to, if possible

as i recall the ability to boot from nvme devices was not available until the G4 revision, you need to use a SATA based SSD for the boot drive and if you have room (and a pci-e x4 slot)  in your enclosure use the nvme ssd as a data drive

you can also use a usb key based nvme boot loader (duet/refind) to add the missing bios code for booting nvme

Hey @DGroves,

It is a SATA based SSD i am using, i got fed up messing around so i installed Debian as UEFI install on the USDT machine, it booted fine and work well, then i rebooted the device and it just hung on "Attempting to boot from hard drive"

Just contact the seller of the USDT machine in hopes of returning it, but they have a no return policy, so i'm stuck with this machine.

I just wish i could figure out why its not booting from UEFI SATA SSD

replace the sata data cable, then if still having problems replace the boot drive
