HP Media Vault MV2010 died -- How can I obtain data on disks

Hello All My HP Media Vault MV2010 has died. I have quite a bit of data on the drives and need to obtain the data and transfer it to a new NAS. 

How can I get access the data on the drives so I can transfer them to a new NAS?

if the data is important to you and can not be lost, then the best solution is a data recovery service. there are several who have had reviews posted online but one that i have personal experence with is seagate data recovery services.

be advised that data recovery is not cheap, nor is recovery a given. the recovery service will look at the disk(s) give a recovery quote and then attempt to recover as much as possible

since you have not stated what failed, the NAS, or just a drive, and/or the raid (if used) format, the above information is all i can provide at this time

if the NAS box itself has failed, buy a used one off ebay

Thanks for your response support team. The drives are fine. The actual NAS has died. I plugged it in, the lights are on, but cannot connect to the device. In the past if a drive failed it would have a high pitch ring. 

Unfortunately, a few years back when I experienced my first drive failure I took the device to have the data recovered. They could not recover the data because of the encryption or OS, or whatever the HP Media Vault uses. Because I mirrored the drive in a raid, when I replaced the faulty drive I was able to get the MV up and running.

However, that is not the issue now. The drives are fine. The device, the actual HP MV2010 has died.

The blue power light is on. The green network light is on, but the green ok light is not on. When I pulled out the hotswap drive, the orange light for the drive briefly came on, then went off. However, there are no lights indicating that there is an error with a drive.

I hear a brief hum, whirr, grind (not like when a harddrive fails grind, more like a fan).

There has to be a solution that when the device fails one is able to obtain the data from the drives without them being accidentally erased. I was hoping since HP developed the device you would have a solution for me to access the drives and transfer the data to a new NAS.

First of all,...i am not hp support and have nothing to do with them, this board is user to user however i do make my living doing "IT" support and try to help users on this forum.

with that out of the way, know that seagate recovery, and most other recovery services should be able to read the data on your array since their recovery methods include methods that bypass OS/filesystem  and even the controller chip if nessary. but as i said it's not cheap a basic inspection charge can be over 100.00 in some cases. but their rate of recovery is quite high.

before you go that route, why not try buying a used replacement Media Vault MV2010 i just checked and a working unit was 149.00 + 15.00 shipping

last, find another computer recovery place,..... their statement that they could not recover data from a raid 1 array  on the mediavault 210 shows that they really do not have a real technician the mediavault 210 drives are usually formated in the  "Reiser FS" filesystem which is a common format

After not turning on, one day it turned on and replacing the disk rebuilt the mirror and I was able to access it. Unfortunately one of the drives must've died again. I will replace it and move all files over to a new NAS. I just live that lil NAS tho
