Why does my HP Z-820, Windows 10 Pro workstation (repeatedly) displays that the PIN is lost and need be reset?

windows 10/11 give you the option to use either a  alphanumeric logon password or use a 4 digit Pin number

your OS is stating that the created Pin number can no longer be accessed, and needs to be recreated

To change your PIN when you're already signed in:

1. Make sure you're connected to the internet, so the change syncs to your Microsoft account.
2. Select Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
3. Select PIN (Windows Hello) > Change PIN and then follow the instructions.
