HP Z turbo Drive g2 install on a z240

Hello,

I have recently got a brand new z240 along with a new hp z turbo drive, I had followed the instructions as well as watched a youtube video on the installation of the hardware on a z420. However even after installing the windows 7 SP updates that are mentioned in other issues like this the drive still does not appear.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

windows 7 does not support booting/ installing the OS from nvme drives unless it has several hot fixes applied to it by

slipstreaming them into the OS/setup files and then installing from a usb key

i (strongly) recomend you back up your data then download the MS win 10 image (prof if your 7 is prof) to a bootable usb key, then from within windows 7 cd to the Key, and run the win 10 setup, the setup will erase everything, but it will see the win 7 key and microsoft will then give that system a digital license that auto activates windows 10

once the above is done, you can just do normal  win 10 reinstalls and it will allways activate appon internet connection

windows 10 has native nvme support and will install without any problems on your z240

and FYI: the turbo drive (no g2) is SATA and the "G2" is nvme based

Thanks for the response! I had installed windows 10 on the machine and it is still not appearing. I dont suppose it would help if i said that this drive is supposed to be a secondary and is installed in slot 4 connected to the MB with the led cable it came with as shown in the video below.

quick check, is the z420 seeing the nvme drive in the bios? if so are you booting from another drive and not seeing the nvme drive? if this is the case you need to use disk managment to format the nvme drive before windows will see it

select simple drive ntfs or whatever windows 10 offers as defaults  if UEFI mode in bios is enabled (Gparted)

are your z420 bios settings at factory defaults? in other words is UEFI mode enabled in the bios

it is a z240 i just used the video about the z440 as a guide. the bios on the z240 are factory default and no changes have been made.

again,.......does the nvme drive show in the bios?

did you format the drive using disk manager?

failure to answer these questions means i will be unable to provide help.

The drive does show on the bios however has not been formatted in the disk manager.

 had formatted the drive and that worked.
